Mad Scientist son-outlaw

Ok, so my son-outlaw (it's an inlaw without the law) was up at 7 this morning with a pencil and paper, deep in thought at the kitchen table. Hours later he had tools and materials. Two trips to the hardware store and several hours later, he was making loud noises. In competition with his father, he's created a potato gun powered by hydrogen. He has a pill bottle (one left over from Peggy's meds) with a tube epoxied into a hole in the bottom and the open mouth in a basin of water. He has a beaker full of hydrochloric acid with a galvanized nail in it, with a stopper with rubber tubing coming out into the open end of the pill bottle. There is some contraption that creates a spark between two steel nails embedded into the pill bottle. He plugs the tube in the end of the bottle with a plug of potato, fills the bottle with hydrogen gas, points it out the sliding glass door, pushes the spark button, and with a loud pop, the potato plug flies out at high velocity.

Pretty bleeping cool.
