Tonight I hit a racoon. It jumped right in front of my car, and I had no chance to swerve. I've had many near misses with animals. This is the first time I hit one. It made me sad. We went back to move the body out of the road out of respect, and it wasn't there. Must have missed the tires and gone under the vehicle. If I were superstitious...

It probably crawled off the road and died. I've seen cats do that.
Interesting coincidence: Just as I was reading your post, a racoon came to our back door to eat from the cat's food bowl. In full daylight.
I think he/ she lives somewhere in our yard as he's a regular around here.

We got a possum eating out of the cat bowl, too. We think it might be living under the house, AGAIN!
